Muralist Will Hatch Crosby

The Ambassador of Weird

Will Hatch Crosby is an artist, illustrator, and muralist, working in his hometown of Austin, Texas. A philosopher at heart, he creates allegorical work using imaginary creatures and drawing upon themes of friendship, heroic quests, mythic beasts, nature, and progressivism. The themes of friendship, nature, heroic quests, and progressivism inspire and inform Will’s creative practice. He also loves basketball.

Will holds a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design and a BA in Visual Art and Philosophy from Eugene Lang College. The scale of his work spans from large-scale public art projects to editorial illustration work.

Will believes that art can be a powerful tool for creating and strengthening the interpersonal relationships between individuals and communities that form meaning in our lives. He strives to use this power for good by creating work that inspires others to use their own imagination and talents to build a better future for all creatures everywhere.

This human-like creature embodies the fun, chill, and inviting vibe that makes Austin the perfect place to host concerts and sporting events. Accompanied by the iconic bats of the Congress bridge, the ambassador greets the guests of the Moody Center while having a drink under the shade of an oak tree. The phrase “Hola Friend” serves as a cultural bridge between the Spanish speaking and English-speaking communities of Austin. The laid-back and friendly spirit of this longhorn dude reflects the best parts of Austin’s culture and values.
