Muralist Rex Hamilton

Bloom

Rex Sterling Hamilton is a muralist and painter. The Austin, Texas native sees color as divine, believing it can alter the way we see and perceive the world. Rex counts Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, Neo-Expressionism, Surrealism, and pop culture as integral influences on his art.

With over 20 years of experience in drawing and painting, Rex has been commissioned for several large-scale murals across the city of Austin. His work has been featured in Austin Monthly as well as the Austin Chronicle as part of a feature on Black Artistry.

With a philosophy grounded in creation and love, Rex’s work depicts the beauty in the world as a way to make everyday life more colorful and harmonious.

“BLOOM” celebrates interconnectedness and self-expression. I replaced the skin tones with surreal colors to give the piece an inclusive feel. I used Native Texas Wildflowers to represent what makes each of us unique.
