Moody Center Named #1 Highest Grossing Venue Worldwide By Billboard

(AUSTIN, TX) On Friday, Billboard Magazine released year-end box score charts revealing that Austin’s Moody Center is the #1 highest grossing venue in the world within the category of 10,001-15,000-person capacity arenas. Despite being open only 7 months during the magazine’s 2022 reporting period, Moody Center has surpassed every single other national and international venue in gross revenue generated by concert ticket sales.

Since opening its doors to the public in April, Moody Center has brought a star-studded line-up to Austin including George Strait, Justin Bieber, Eagles, Kendrick Lamar, Dave Matthews Band, Roger Waters, Jimmy Buffett, Andrea Bocelli, Post Malone, Karol G, Michael Bublé, and The Killers. Recently, international superstar Harry Styles hosted a residency at the arena welcoming over 100,000 fans during his six sold-out “Love On Tour” performances. To date, Moody Center has hosted over 90 events with nearly four dozen sold-out concerts.

“The high caliber of events brought to Moody Center allows us to achieve this significant recognition as the highest grossing venue worldwide” says Jeff Nickler, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Moody Center. “The credit truly belongs to the fans who have embraced this new arena in an unprecedented way through the purchase of tickets in record numbers.”

“Austin has had a long tradition of being a great music town and I’m thrilled that this wonderful city now has a great venue to showcase the all the great artists that perform here. We at Oak View Group are proud that both the Austin music community and artists worldwide have so enthusiastically embraced Moody Center in it’s very first year.” Says Irving Azoff, co-owner of Oak View Group.

“It’s no secret, Austin is well-known for its iconic live music scene, but what it didn’t have was a modern, premium venue to host the world’s biggest artists. That all changed with Moody Center,” said Tim Leiweke, chairman and CEO, Oak View Group. “On behalf of our partners, Live Nation, C3 Presents, Matthew McConaughey, and The University of Texas, we’re honored Moody Center is quickly leaving its mark on Austin and the industry, and all within seven months of opening.”

An impressive line-up will continue to fill the Moody Center event calendar well into 2023. Recently, CMT and CBS together announced for the first time in 20 years that the CMT Music Awards, the country’s only fan-voted awards show will be hosted at Moody Center on April 2, 2023. Other announced acts for next year include Bruce Springsteen, Morgan Wallen, Journey, Blink-182, Arctic Monkeys, Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, and MUSE.
